More than 50% of individuals released from incarceration will become homeless within the first year. A lack of housing creates additional challenages when trying to gain employment, meet the requirements of release and re-stabalize in general. It is a difficult barrier to overcome and in many cases leads to increase recidivism. The Harbor House provides a comprehensive solution to this problem.
The Harbor House is a component of the Second Chances Program and was developed to meet the needs of program participants. The residents attend peer supprt meetings, receive case management services, participate in community service activities, and have workshops and seminiars designed to address their needs. Strong bonds are formed and residents often find the "family" support that they need in other residents. The house is governed by a resident counsel that helps the residents to develop conflict resolution skills and empowers the individuals as they move forward with their lives.
Currently the Harbor House Program consists of one location that houses 16 single men.
